Article from the Riverine Herald Newspaper dated - Friday 17th June 2011:
The Great Aussie Camp Oven Cook-Off at the Torrumbarry hotel-motel was held over the long weekend. The event saw more than 500 people attend over three days and about 14 people compete in the cook-off on Sunday.

Some of the guests camped out on the hotel property, while others slept in vans and at the motel. The event raised more than $680 through raffles, the cost of tasting the camp oven dishes, and the fee to enter the competition.

Competitors paid $10 to enter, while others could enjoy their food for $8. The money raised will be donated to the Torrumbarry Fire Brigade. Romsey resident Melissa Day won the main course section of the competition with her tandoori chicken dish, and ‘Gazza’ Saunders won the sweets and damper section with his vanilla cupcakes. The judges of the cook-off were solicitor and former wine importer Chris Bolden, chef Annie Penson and author of bush cooking cookbook Rabbit on a Shovel, Herbert ‘Lummo’ Lummis.

The cook-off, which has been running for more than 20 years, was declared highly successful by Torrumbarry hotel publican Allan Bolden.  ‘‘It went fantastically. It was bigger and better than last year,’’ Mr Bolden said. The hotel held a ‘Torrumbarry Jam’ talent quest on the Friday before the event, which Mr Bolden will aim to replicate in the future. Mr Bolden said the cook-off was a great Australian event. ‘‘One of the reasons my wife and I bought the pub was to keep the camp oven cook-off going,’’ Mr Bolden said.
